How To Schedule Price Changes On Shopify

There are a couple reasons why you might want to schedule price changes on Shopify.

Mostly, merchants use scheduling when they’re running a sale and setting discounted prices. Some also use it to adjust pricing based on cost of goods sold — a key factor during periods of high inflation — or to keep pace with increased advertising/marketing expenses.

Whatever your reasons, we’ve got good news and bad news for you:

  • The bad news is that you can’t simply schedule price changes through your Shopify admin 😭
  • But the good news is that there are a few other ways to make it happen — and we’ll run through them in this article

Let’s get into it…

3 Ways To Schedule Price Changes Manually

First off, let’s look at the manual options for scheduling price changes.

There’s just one small issue with each of these methods: they’re not automated, so you’ll have to do some of the legwork yourself. We recommend setting a reminder in your calendar on the day you want the changes to take effect.

Method #1: Bulk Edit in Shopify Admin

While Shopify doesn’t have a native price change scheduler, it does allow you to edit prices in bulk via the Shopify admin. Here’s how to do it:

  • Log in to your Shopify admin.
  • In the left-hand menu, click Products.
Shopify products
  • Check all the products you want to edit then click Bulk edit.
Select products
  • Edit prices in the Base price column.

  • Click Save to update your product prices.

Method #2: Adjust Prices Based on Shopify Markets

Alternatively, if you’re looking to increase or decrease all your product prices by a specific percentage, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Shopify admin.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the left-hand menu and click Settings.
Shopify settings
  • In the left-hand menu of the Settings screen, click Markets.
Shopify markets
  • In the Overview section, choose the market you want to change prices for.
Choose market
  • Under Market settings, click Products and pricing.

  • In the Price adjustment section, use the drop-down menu to choose Increase or Decrease.

  • In the box on the right-hand side, enter your desired percentage price change.

Method #3: Export/Import Products Via CSV

The third and final manual option is to schedule price changes outside of the Shopify admin by exporting and importing products. To do this, you need to:

  • Export the products you want to edit.
  • Edit the Variant Price (and, optionally, the Variant Compare At Price).
  • Import the CSV into Shopify.

Pro tip: You only need to include the Title, Handle, and Variant Price fields, unless you’re planning to make other changes at the same time.

Schedule Price Changes With a Dedicated App

Don’t feel like doing all the work yourself? A more efficient option is to use a third-party app to schedule price changes. Here are the three best options, based on Shopify App Store reviews:

App Price User Rating
NA Bulk Price Editor $0 – $19.95 per month 4.8/5 (178 reviews)
Rockit Sales & Discounts $0 – $29.99 per month 4.9/5 (227 reviews)
Propel Sale Bulk Price Editor $0 – $7.90 per month 4.8/5 (184 reviews)

BONUS TIP: Use Product Badges To Promote Sale Prices

Scheduled price changes ahead of an upcoming sale?

Your next task is to ensure each and every person who visits your store knows about the incredible discounts you’re offering. The best way to do that is by adding product badges to sale products.

Product badges help to highlight your best promotions, whether you’re running a percentage-off sale or offering a fixed-price discount on specific products.

FAQs

Can I schedule a price change on Shopify?

Yes — but price scheduling isn’t a native Shopify feature (at least, not yet). Instead, you’ll have to use a dedicated app like…

…or do it manually by exporting/importing products via CSV or making changes through the Shopify admin.

How do you bulk-edit product prices on Shopify?

The Shopify admin offers two different ways to edit product prices in bulk:

  • Navigate to the Products screen, select all the products for which you want to make price changes, then click Bulk edit to make all the necessary changes.
  • Click Settings > Markets, choose the Market in which you want to apply price changes, click Products and pricing, then use the Price adjustment section to make percentage-based price increases or decreases across all products in that Market.
